Walkthrough

You begin as Link (on first playthrough), on the steps of the plaza in the center of Castle Town where the Champions' investment ceremony takes place in Breath of the Wild. You can press your minus button immediately to change your settings if you want. It's a good idea to turn enemy health bars on, so you can easily spot smaller enemies in tall grass and get a feel for the damage your attacks do.

Objective 0: Repel the monsters

First of all, turn northwest from spawn and head to a small nook, visible on the upper left of your map, almost at the northern edge of Castle Town. Find a metal chest and open it for 5 Topaz. No enemies will spawn near here, so there won't be a more efficient time to get it.

Head back southeast to the spawn point, then south down the road. Clear enemies until you get a brief cutscene showing many monsters being destroyed by cannon fire. This cutscene is on a timer, not a kill count or location trigger, so if you prefer to hang back and test out Link's moves, you'll still get the cutscene. There is also no glowing objective marker for this segment, hence "Objective 0".

Objective 1: Defeat the Moblin

You can now run around the rest of the accessible field clearing enemies and learning Link's moves, or head directly to the glowing objective point on the west side of the map marking a Moblin fight. The gates letting you leave the main portion of Hyrule Field will not open until the Moblin has been defeated.

When you confront the Moblin, the game will teach you how to lock onto it, how to interact with its weak-point gauge, and how to perform a Weak-Point Smash move. You may need to move closer to the enemy if your regular strong-attack animation plays instead of the special Weak-Point Smash animation. Your Weak-Point Smash varies with the character and weapon you bring, and some characters have multiple Weak-Point Smash moves with the same build.

At some point in this process, the game should also indicate that you can Flurry Rush enemies by pressing B to dodge at the right moment. Unlike in Breath of the Wild, you do not need to do anything with the left analog stick to initiate a Flurry Rush. Simply pressing B, if timed properly, will dodge the enemy's attack, initiate the Flurry Rush, and expose the weak-point gauge.

Objective 2: Capture the Outposts

Objective 2a: Western Required Outpost

Once the Moblin is dead, the whole map is open to you. On a first playthrough of the level, it is advisable to clear as many enemies as possible before completing the final objective. You'll be unlocking several item turn-in quests that require your enemy KO trophies, which are awarded per kill at the end of each battle.

First of all, head southwest from where you killed the Moblin, toward the nearest glowing objective marker. Dash into the outpost, then out again by the south gate without engaging the enemies yet, and head down the road.

You should hit an invisible location trigger and see a cutscene. After the cutscene, you'll gain the use of your first Sheikah Runes, Remote Bombs and Cryonis. (You won't be unlocking Magnesis and Stasis until the next main story mission. This gives you time to become familiar with the use of these two runes first.)

Now that you have your runes, they'll make the outposts much easier. Once you regain control after the cutscene, ignore the enemies south of the tower for now. Turn around and head back north toward the outpost you dashed through. Just before entering the gate, take a left and find a yellow korok flower in a dead end. Interact with it using Y to receive your first Korok Seed.

Enter the outpost and clear it. When its red health gauge becomes low, around a third or a quarter remaining, a large Bokoblin will spawn. When it uses certain moves, the game will prompt you to use one of your Sheikah Runes to counter the move and expose the enemy's weak-point gauge. This outpost's Bokoblin wields a [Boko Spear] and will charge you, prompting you to spawn a Cryonis block in its path in order to stun it.

Once the large Bokoblin is dead, three randomized chests will spawn. Open them with Y or just let them open automatically. These will provide you with weapons and loot that can be specific to the battlefield, as well as enemy parts specific to the enemy you killed, so it's helpful to kill as many of these "powerful foes" as you can. Every outpost marked with the red outpost symbol on your map will have one.

Objective 2b: Wizzrobe (Optional)

After clearing your first outpost, a Fire Wizzrobe will spawn in the main part of Hyrule Field along with a new horde of bokoblins. You'll gain the ability to play as Impa, the Sheikah aide to Princess Zelda, whom you met in the cutscene.

(Note: Impa, or the character in your second slot if you're replaying the mission, won't be available to you until you clear a required outpost after the tower cutscene where you gained your Sheikah Runes. This is the other reason, besides getting the runes, to hit that location trigger early.)

You don't have to defeat the Fire Wizzrobe to complete the mission, but it's strongly recommended.

Leave Link where he is. Press your plus button and use your Allies screen to switch to playing Impa. Then use the Allies screen to order Link to stay where he is, or he'll start wandering around and put you out of position for the next part of the walkthrough.

Impa's moves are significantly different from Link's, so look over her information page (accessible by clicking the panel that shows her hearts and level on the Allies screen) and try her out on the horde of Bokoblins that have spawned.

After the Fire Wizzrobe dances around throwing fire attacks (which can be flurried) at you for a while, the game will prompt you to use your Remote Bomb rune on him. Impa's bomb rune really shines against aerial enemies like Wizzrobes, because it has a strong vertical component, contrasted with Link's largely horizontal bomb move.

Once you defeat the Wizzrobe, make sure to run over to where he despawned and pick up his Fire Rod. This isn't an equippable weapon, but a power all your characters can use. It'll be especially useful against elemental enemies when you start encountering them in later parts of the game.

Objective 2c: Clearing the Western Map (Optional)

You can keep playing with Impa if you prefer, but for linear walkthrough purposes, we'll switch back to Link. He may still be standing in the first required outpost where you left him, or he may have moved. Get back to that outpost if necessary, then head out the north gate. Turn left (west) directly after exiting to find a wooden chest containing 100 rupees.

Head further north to the optional outpost there and clear it as well. The large Bokoblin here wields a [Boko Shield], so you'll be prompted to use Remote Bombs to break its guard. Once the outpost is cleared, head out its north gate into the dead-end area. Destroy the lone crate in the middle of this area for another korok.

Head back south through your two cleared outposts, now full of Hylian soldiers, and into the area dominated by the Sheikah tower. Take the path full of enemies that leads southwest from the tower, and clear it out, finishing with the skull camp.

This camp doesn't have a "powerful foe" miniboss, but it does have a randomized loot chest. Remember to open this loot chest, as it won't open automatically for you. You can also cave in the entire skull camp spectacularly with Remote Bombs if you like.

Head back east from the skull camp. Don't head south into the big white stone keep yet. Instead, head east along the path, and clear the next two large grassy areas full of bokoblins.

Just before the large wooden gate that opens back up into the main part of Hyrule Field, take a sharp right. Follow the path southeast into the smaller boko-filled area, and clear it.

Take the eastern gate out of the small area -- it's a left turn if you're facing the big white stone gate here -- and follow the stone wall on your right. The korok flower for korok 3 of 7 is by the wall, a little way west of the broken tree stump. It blends into the mossy white stone wall surprisingly well.

Turn around and head back west into the small area you cleared, then south through the big white stone gate into the streets of Castle Town. Watch out for the big bomb barrel just to the left of the gate as you enter; you can set it off with Link's arrows from a distance to clear a bunch of bokoblins, but it can also damage you if you're unwary.

Zigzag around through Castle Town, heading generally west toward the southwest optional outpost, clearing bokos as you go.

When you get near the southwest optional outpost, just to its east, you'll observe a lone boko beating a lone soldier at the top of a short flight of stairs. Kill the boko and open the chest against the wall next to him (chest 3 of 5) for a Traveler's Sword.

Head west into the optional outpost and clear it. This large boko will also wield a [Boko Shield], and you'll once again be prompted to use your bomb rune to break his guard.

Head south from the optional outpost. Clear the little circular market and both paths leading east. These groups of bokos may use a move where an alert horn sounds and then they throw their clubs at you in unison. This attack will ragdoll you if you're not holding ZL to guard, and will push you back even if you are unless you press Y at the right moment to perform a Perfect Guard with Link's shield. (Impa cannot Perfect Guard, as she doesn't carry a shield.)

Objective 2d: Southern Required Outpost and Clearing the Southern Map (Optional)

This outpost's large boko wields a spear. Use Cryonis when he charges you in order to stagger him. You'll likely be getting a feel for the rhythm of the game by now.

Head east along the path, clearing bokos as you go. In the large triangular area in the south center of the map, you'll encounter Lizalfos as well as bokoblins. You'll be unlocking quests that require more total Lizalfos Trophies than are available on a single playthrough of this mission, so you may wish to clear as many lizals as possible, or not.

There's an optional Lizalfos outpost near the south center of the map. You may choose to clear it now or later. The large lizal wields a [Lizal Spear] and will charge you, so that the game can teach you the advantages of using Cryonis to freeze enemies in water.

Head back into the large triangular area, if you detoured into the outpost, and cross the long wooden bridge to the south. About a quarter of the way across, on the east side of the bridge, interact with a korok pinwheel for korok 4 of 7.

At the south end of the bridge, use Link's arrows (hold ZR to aim, release to shoot) to set off the giant bomb barrel underneath the boko camp from a safe distance. The entire camp should explode. Remember to open the randomized chest, as it won't open automatically.

This area is where your final objective for the level will be, so it's helpful to have this large boko camp already cleared out before you clear your third required outpost.

Head east through this large field. If you leave the lone bomb barrel intact, you can use it in your final objective.

Clear out the optional outpost at the eastern end. The large boko here wields a shield. Use a remote bomb to break his guard.

Objective 2e: Clearing the Eastern Map (Optional)

Take the next wooden bridge northeast. Before the abandoned boko camp, take a right and follow the path past the trash heap to find a wooden chest (4 of 5) hiding behind a tree. Open it for a Kakariko Kodachi.

Head back north across another wooden bridge, then west through a watery area with some more lizals. If you didn't clear the optional outpost near the south center of the map, do so now.

Head north from that outpost toward the main open area of Hyrule Field -- we'll be clearing the last chest and the rest of the koroks before taking on the third required outpost.

In the square white-stone walled area just before reaching the main field, stand on the leaf-print korok stump and press Y to interact, revealing korok 5 of 7.

If desired, clear the remaining enemies in Hyrule Field, if you haven't already.

Just outside the north gate of the walled area, turn right and follow the path through the low wooden gate into a farm-like area. Take the left fork in the road and work your way north and east, clearing out the camouflaged lizals you meet along the way.

Make your way to the northeasternmost corner of this bulge on the east side of the map. You'll find a large, grungy-looking whitish house with a pattern of dark beams on the walls. Around the back of this house, in a northeast-facing corner next to the wood pile, is chest 5 of 5. Open it for a Soldier's Broadsword.

Head south behind the house and turn southwest. You'll see a large open racetrack-like arena with a korok balloon floating in circles in the middle. Use a weapon or Link's arrows to pop it for korok 6 of 7.

Head out the northwest side of the racetrack and help some soldiers deal with some more lizalfos. Work your way through the area north of the third glowing outpost, heading west, until you reach the same low wooden gate onto Hyrule Field where you entered the eastern ranch area.

Now turn sharply and take the path toward the last required outpost. Clear a few chuchus and lizals along the way. Slightly south of the chuchus and lizals, find a well-hidden yellow korok flower in the tall grass east of the path, and interact with it for korok 7 of 7.

Objective 3: Finishing the Required Objectives

Take on the third required outpost. It's filled with lizals, and the large lizal wields a spear. Stun him with Cryonis and finish him off.

Impa will congratulate you on turning the tide of battle, then a Hylian Captain will announce that a "troop" of Moblins have appeared. These are three Moblins in the southern grassy area where you blew up the boko camp with the giant bomb barrel (if you've been following this walkthrough). Once the last one is defeated, the level will end, so make sure you've taken care of everything else you want to do first.

Head southwest toward the center of the map, clearing a few more camouflaged lizals on your way. A Fire Wizzrobe will be dancing around near the north end of the long bridge where you found the pinwheel korok. You can defeat him or not, as you like.

Cross the long bridge and find three Moblins in the eastern part of the grassy field. You can try to kite them apart and take them on one at a time, or you can lead them to the large bomb barrel near the southern edge of the field, or simply dive in. Ordering your other player character to join you can help divide the Moblins' attention as well.

Once the last Moblin is down, the battle is over. King Rhoam will note that Link fought well and perhaps an official appointment is in order.
